Dr. Adrian Fernandez
Dentist
Adrian graduated from the University of Otago in 2009 and began his dental journey in a small rural practice in Balclutha, where he honed his skills over six years. After moving back to Auckland, he joined ToothDoctor when the practice was first established in 2017. In 2018, Adrian took the next step in his career by purchasing the practice, further cementing his commitment to providing exceptional dental care to the community.
Adrian is passionate about general dentistry, with a special interest in biomimetic dentistry—an approach focused on minimally invasive techniques that preserve as much of your natural tooth structure as possible. He believes in evidence-based care and always aims to provide treatments that are backed by the latest research and the highest standards of practice.
At ToothDoctor, Adrian prides himself on offering integrated patient care. He works closely with other dental professionals and medical practitioners to ensure you receive the best possible dental treatment. Known for his gentle touch and meticulous approach, Adrian takes the time to listen to your concerns and tailor each treatment to your individual needs, creating a comfortable and positive dental experience.
Beyond general dentistry, Adrian has a strong background in forensic odontology, a field he has been involved with since 2014. He has contributed to the identification of numerous individuals, including in mass casualty events. As the regional coordinator for forensic odontology services in Auckland, he also assists the Police in routine Coronial identification work, ensuring that his expertise extends to important work within the community.

Dr. Tristan Ma
Dentist
Originally from Wellington, Tristan now calls the beautiful North Shore of Auckland his home. After graduating from the University of Otago in 2017, he has built a diverse and extensive background in general dentistry.
Tristan began his career in a hospital-based practice, gaining invaluable experience in treating dental and facial trauma, as well as caring for patients with complex medical and dental needs. This foundation allowed him to develop a comprehensive approach to dental care, which he then brought to a busy Upper Hutt practice, where he offered a wide range of general dental services to patients of all ages.
Tristan’s passion lies in providing personalized care that is specifically tailored to each patient’s individual needs. He believes that every patient deserves to feel comfortable, informed, and well-cared-for, which is why he takes the time to listen and understand their unique concerns.
Whether you need a routine check-up, restorative treatments, or more complex dental procedures, Tristan is committed to ensuring you receive top-quality care in a welcoming and compassionate environment.
When he’s not helping patients achieve brighter, healthier smiles, Tristan enjoys spending time with his partner, Amber, and their playful new puppy, who keeps them both on their toes. He also loves long bike rides, enjoying the outdoors and staying active.
Fluent in both English and Mandarin, Tristan is happy to assist patients from a variety of backgrounds, ensuring clear communication for a more comfortable dental experience.
Dr. Sophia Mahendran
Dentist
Dr Sophia Lee Mahendran is a caring and gentle general and family dentist. With years of clinical experience, she is dedicated to helping her patients achieve healthy, confident smiles by combining her skills, knowledge, and patient-centered approach.
Originally from Torbay, Sophia graduated from the University of Otago in 2014 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (with Credit). After spending the past eight years practicing in Ponsonby, she is now returning to the North Shore to continue serving her community.
Sophia provides comprehensive dental care, including restorative treatments, composite bonding, veneers, crowns, bridges, and clear aligners. She also holds a two-year postgraduate diploma in Progressive Orthodontics, allowing her to offer early orthodontic intervention for children. Additionally, she is accredited with the Australasian Academy of Dento-Facial Aesthetics to provide Botox (Dysport) treatments for both therapeutic and aesthetic purposes. Committed to ongoing professional development, she regularly attends courses to stay at the forefront of modern dentistry.
Beyond private practice, Sophia is a Senior Professional Practice Fellow at the University of Otago Auckland Dental School, where she tutors and mentors final-year dental students. She is passionate about fostering the next generation of dentists and sharing her expertise in restorative and cosmetic dentistry.
Outside of dentistry, Sophia enjoys spending time with her husband, Luke, and their 8-month-old daughter. As a mother, she understands the importance of balancing health, confidence, and well-being, which is reflected in her approach to patient care. She stays active with regular walks and gym workouts and cherishes family time.

Anna Wong
Dental Assistant
Anna joined the team in October 2023, bringing her passion for patient care and a wealth of knowledge to our practice. A proud Aucklander, Anna grew up on the west side and is excited to be part of our community, helping patients achieve healthy, beautiful smiles every day.
With a background in natural sciences and hands-on experience working in a medical lab, Anna has a strong foundation in understanding the science behind dental procedures and treatments. Her keen eye for detail and scientific expertise make her a valuable asset in ensuring that our patients receive the best possible care in a safe and comfortable environment.
Outside the practice, Anna is an avid adventurer who loves trying new things and exploring new places. She is currently on a mission to complete all of New Zealand’s Great Walks, enjoying the beauty of nature and staying active along the way. Her adventurous spirit and positive energy make her a wonderful part of our team, always bringing a friendly smile and a great attitude to work.
